Is this all a huge joke? After yesterday's market meltdown I was reviewing the events of the past month.
1) The United States Taxpayers own Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac, most of AIG, and soon will be taking on all of the bad loans of the banks who made a series of dumb gambles with adjustable rate mortgages. The United States government is the largest mortgage banker in the world at this point. These actions are similar to if I went gambling, lost all of my money, came home and had all of my neighbors pool their money and give it all to me.
2) The GOP allowed the McCain campaign to pick the least qualified governor in the United States as the Republican Vice-Presidential candidate. Not only has Governor Palin only been the Governor of Alaska for a little less than two years, but she recently gave birth to a child who is afflicted with Down's Syndrome, and was already the mother of four other children. Her teenage daughter is pregnant! John McCain is 72 years old, was held as a POW for five years, and has a history of melanoma. Does everyone realize how many presidents have been assasinated? This has got be someone pulling a fast one on us doesn't it? James Dobson would have been a better choice.
3) While all of this is going on at home the United States is also fighting two wars overseas to the tune of 10 billion dollars a month. There is a roughly defined goal (make one group stop killing the other groups), there is no exit strategy, and this has been going on for six years.
This all strikes me as a bad episode of Candid Camera. Is this someone seeing how much they can make us dance for a Klondike Bar?
